The Van Brunt Family Trust - Karen Van Brunt Scholarship
Karen Van Brunt
Karen Van Brunt was killed at about 7am on September 24, 1964, when her car ran into a tree in the middle of the block on a little-traveled street in Pasadena. She was on her way to classes at UCLA. She lived a wonderful Full-To-The-Brim twenty-one years. She delightedly met every challenge of life and never lost that “tippy toe” eagerness to “vestigate” as she called it when she was a darling sprite of two years old. She loved all that was good and beautiful. Giving service to others was almost an occupation with her.
She gave service in the church, school, and home area – often done very quietly. Part of her service was through music. Her first love being the piano, followed by singing in the church and school choirs, then the violin in elementary and junior high school and more recently the guitar because she loved folks songs as well as classical music.
The Karen Van Brunt Scholarship Fund is an annual award for a young woman graduating from John Muir High School and planning to enroll in the nursing program. Karen Van Brunt is third from the left in the photo.
